- California's Home Prices and Rents Diverging — This article by the California Legislative Analyst's Office covers the jump in the cost of home ownership relative to the cost of renting a home. This effect is strongest in the Bay Area and Los Angeles metropolitan area. There's also financial disincentive for someone who currently owns a home (likely at a < 5% interest rate) to sell and purchase a new home at a > 5% interest rate (rates today hover around 7%).
